The Scene for August 21, 2015

School has started in Palm Beach and Miami-Dade County, classes start next week in Broward, and yet the Summer Theatre Season hasn't quite played out.

The South Florida Theatre League’s Summerfest Play Reading Series has two more events to go.  This Monday, Mad Cat Theatre reads Jessica Farr's Party Girls at the Sandbox Studio of the Miami Theater Center, and the final reading is The Dana Plays, presented by The Naked Stage at The Vanguard in Fort Lauderdale.

Here’s what’s playing this week on The Scene:

Mad Cat Theater opens Theo Reyna's Lazy Fair at the Miami Theater Center, through September 6.

Ground Up and Rising opens Philil Ridley's Vincent River at Artistic Vibes.  Through September 4.

you still haven't missed...

Gablestage presents I'll Eat You Last (A Chat with Sue Mengers), through August 30.

The Palm Beach Dramaworks concert staging of the muscial 110 in the Shade has been extended through August 30.  Based on the play The Rainmaker, no one ever does this wonderful show.

Island City Stage and City Theatre presents Shorts Gone Wild at Empire Stage through September 6, and then at The Fillmore from September 10-13.

MicroTheatre Miami is running three plays in English and four plays in Spanish on Thursdays.  Check it out: you can choose which plays you see, and you only pay for the ones you choose.  It's a sweet deal, and a great night out.
