The Scene for May 4, 2012

The weather seems to be clearing up, after a week that started all doom and gloom.  But things are looking up; The Tony Awards nominations are out, and we have a lot of shows playing on South Florida Stages.

Here's the scene for this week-


opening...

Donald Margulie's Time Stands Still opens at Gablestage, through June 12.

If you find yourself in Key West, The Waterfront Playhouse opens the world premier of Home Exchange, through May 26.

Miami Stage Door opens Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks at the Byron Carlyle Theatre, through June 10.


you still haven't missed...

The Red Barn Theatre in Key West opens Short Attention Span Theatre, through May 12.  Sounds like the perfect break between pitchers of margaritas.

A Measure of Cruelty plays at Mosaic Theatre through May 13; an intense drama ripped from the headlines.

Little Shop of Horrors plays at the Broward Stage Door Theatre through May 20; if you like the show, you'll like this.

Last Call plays at Empire Stage through May 5, 2012; a surprising little hit for First Step Productions and Empire Stage.

Avenue Q comes to the Andrews Living Arts Studio in what's apparently an open-ended run; luke-warm notices, but the buzz on the street is that it's pretty good.

Laffing Matterz plays the Broward Center's Abdo New River Room, for its third season of dinner and comedy; still pleasing the crowds.

The Irish Theatre of Florida production of  The Country Boy finishes at the Crest Theatre on May 5.

The Boca Raton Theatre Guild presents Lady Day at the Emerson Bar & Grill, extended one more week, to end this Sunday.  For sure, this time..

The House Theatre production of Death and Harry Houdini plays at the Arsht Center through May 20, 2012.

Main Street Players presents Jason Robert Brown's 13, through May 20.

Henry and Mudge plays at the Aventura Arts and Cultural Center this Saturday, May 5 only.  It's a Family Fun Day!

Sol Children's Theatre Troupe presents Little Women, The Musical, through May 20.

A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings
returns to The Playground Theatre, through May 25.

The World Premiere of Peter Rabbit and the Garden of Doom at Actors' Playhouse  at the Miracle Theatre through May 26.
