The Scene for January 23, 2015

It’s a busy week on the scene: the nominations for the 39th annual Carbonell Awards were announced on Wednesday.  The winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on March 30, 2015.  And once again, the South Florida Theatre League will be hosting an after-party just down the street.
But the real news this week are all the plays opening across South Florida this weekend.  Five major regional productions open this week, in addition to four productions blowing through this weekend only, a dozen more productions both professional and amatuer -  and this is also the final weekend to catch Mad Cat’s take on Neil Simon’s The Star Spangled Girl.
