The Scene for March 13, 2009

An interesting week on The Scene; while Dangerous at the Caldwell is the most-reviewed show, Les Miserables has Christine Dolen and Mary Damiano positively gushing. And while newspapers have been slashing reporters, we had a number of theatre-related articles out in the last week.

There are no professional plays opening this weekend. So go see something that's already open. Lots to choose from. And don't tell me you've seen everything. I know better.



what's playing

Les Miserables plays at Actors' Playhouse through April 5th, 2009. So far, the critics are raving about this one.

DEFIANCE plays at GableStage through March 22nd.

Caldwell Theater presents Dangerous, the world premier of Michael McKeever's latest play, through March 29th.

Sugar runs through March 29th at the Broward Stage Door Theatre.

The Weir plays at Palm Beach Drama Works through April 5th, 2009.

SISTERS! A Celebration of the Human Spirit plays at the African American Performing Arts Community Theater through March 22nd.

A Dead Man's Cell Phoneplays at Mosaic Theatre through March 22, 2009.

The Glass Menagerie, the Tennessee Williams masterpiece of American drama, plays at New Theatre in Coral Gables through March 29, 2009

Dame Edna, My First Last Tour
plays at Parker Playhouse through March 28, 2009.

A Jew Grows in Brooklyn has been wandering around South Florida for several months, and settles West Palm Beach's Cuillo Center for the next 7 weeks. It runs through April 5, 2009.

Combing Through Life's Tangles plays at the Hollywood Playhouse through March 14th. Drag Queen in a beauty salon; need we say more?

Rising Action Theatre is running two shows concurrently through March 15th: Say You Love Satan plays Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30, with a 7pm show on Sundays, and Simply Barbra plays Thursdays through Saturdays at 9:30pm, with a 3pm matinee on Sundays.



for kids

Alice in Wonderland plays at Actors' Playhouse in Coral Gables through April 4.

Willy Wonka is playing at the Coral Gables Youth Center, produced by the Miami Children's Theater, through March 14.

Sol Children's Theatre Troup opens Cinderella on March 13, and runs it through March 29.
