The Scene for November 2, 2012

If you had any illusions that the theatre season hasn't gotten started yet, this weekend should put them to rest; there are a whole lotta openings going on.  And it's all good stuff; from new works like A Man Puts On A Play to classics like Amadeus, from Godspell to Avenue Q.  Those last two close Sunday, so you better get out to see them soon!

This weekend marks the return of The Women's Theatre Project, but don't look for them in the FATS village; they're up Boca Raton now.


Here's what's happening this week on The Scene:

opening...

Naked Stage presents the world premiere of A Man Puts On A Play, written, produced, and directed by Antonio Amadeo.  We hear that he tried to fire himself during the process, but that he threatened to walk if he did. Anywho, it plays at Barry University's Pelican Theatre through November 18.

Women's Theater Project returns to the scene with Delval Divas, opening at the Willow Theatre at Sugar Sand Park - a venue they now share with Boca Raton Theater Guild.

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre opens its production of Amadeus, through November 11.

M Ensemble opens its production of August Wilson's King Hedly II, through November 18.

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts presents Girls Vs. Boys, a collaboration between The House Theatre of Chicago and The University of Miami theatre department.

Thinking Cap Theatre opens The Drawer Boy at Empire Stage, through November 18.

Stage Door Theatre production of Neil Simon's Rumors, playing through November 11

Talley's Folly plays at Palm Beach Dramaworks through November 11, 2012.

The critics are raving about the strong performances in Driving Miss Daisy, playing at The Plaza Theatre through November 18, 2012.  A reminder; the bridge in Lantana is out, you have to cross either down in Boynton Beach and head up A1A, or cross up in Lake Worth and drive down A1A.  Pretty drive. Worth the trip. Promise.

Tamarac Theatre of Performing Arts presents The Pajama Game, through November 4.

Florida International University presents Medea, through November 11.

The Pelican Playhouse presents The Trials of Robin Hood, through November 11.

Annie plays at the Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts through November 18.

Area Stage presents Dear Edwina Jr, playing November 2-4.

Broward Center for the Performing Arts presents Guess How Much I Love You? & I Love My Little Storybook, Saturday only.  It's part of their Family Fun Series.

Miami Children's Theater presents Grease (Student Edition), November 2-10.

Sol Children's Theatre Troupe presents Rumpelstiltskin through November 11.  If your little one is a fan of the TV show Once Upon A Time, they may want to learn Mr. Gold's back-story.  Heck, admit it; YOU want to. So go.

The Little Mermaid plays at Showtime Performing Arts Theatre, through November 17.

Peter Rabbit plays at Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theater, through November 16, 2012.
