The Scene for May 7, 2010

Tra-la!  It's May!  The 2009-2010 Theatre Scene is winding up; we'll have the Summer Season listing up shortly, as well as the 2010-2011 season.  The Theatre Scene will also be sprucing up a bit; you'll see minor tweaks and some new features in the near future.

In the meantime, here's what's happening on The Scene this first full week of May:

opening:

Too Jewish? will be playing matinees at GableStage on Saturdays starting May 8 through May 22.  This will make the small Coral Gables theatre into a repertory stage for the duration, with Avi Hoffman pulling double-duty in this and The Quarrel.

Edward Albee's Three Tall Women at Palm Beach Dramaworks runs through June 13, 2010.

The Quarrelplays at Gablestage through May 16, 2010

The Women's Theatre Project production of Going to See TheElephant runs through May 16.

New Theatre  production of  Raised in Captivity runs through May 16, 2010.

Caldwell Theatre Company production of Distractedplays through May 16.

Suds plays at Broward Stage Door through May 23.

The Sum of Us plays at Rising Action Theatre through May 30, 2010.

Laffing Matterz slings laughs and food at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts through June.

Mosaic Theatre  production of Christopher Shinn's Dying City  closes May 9, 2010.

Infinite Abyss Productions' critically acclaimed production of Stop Kiss at Empire Stage  ends its extended run on May 9, 2010.

Mad Cat Theatre Company's bigger and better production of Marco Ramirez'  Broadsword at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts closes this Sunday May 9, 2010.

Slow Burn Theatre Company's second ever production, Stephen Sondheim's Assassins,winds up this Sunday, May 9, 2010.

for kids:

The venerable Actors' Rep presents Looking Glass Land at the Borland Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens.  Fun Fact: the current incarnation of The Rep opened with Going to See The Elephant (now playing at The Women's Theatre Project).   May 1st, 7th & 8th.
 
Young King Arthur
plays at the Actors' Playhouse through May 29, 2010.

Playground Theatre presents The Love of Three Oranges in Miami Shores through May 23, 2010.

The Arsht Center presents Rock Odyssey as part of its Family Fest Saturday.
