The Scene for June 4, 2010

This past Tuesday, we had a change of season; the beginning of hurricane season, which is bad, and the start of the Summer Theatre Season in South Florida, which is very good indeed. 

It may be argued that both involve some amount of hot air...


City Theatre is back with its famous short-play festival; Signature Shorts, consisting of kind of short plays that put City Theatre on the map, opens  June 3rd.  Under Shorts, racier adult themed plays, opens on June 4th.  The series plays in rotating rep at the Arsht Center through June 26th.  After that, they move to Nova Southeastern's University School for a limited engagement the first weekend in July.

Mosaic Theatre is opening Groundswell, also on June 3rd.

The fledgling company Andrew Arts Studio opens its production of Godspell on June 3, where it will play through June 26th.

When The Sun Shone Brighter plays at Florida Stage through June 20, 2010 (most reviewed show currently playing)

Edward Albee's Three Tall Women at Palm Beach Dramaworks runs through June 13, 2010.

The Broward Stage Door production of Suds, The Rockin' 60s Musical has been extended through June 13, 2010.

Laffing Matterz slings laughs and food at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts through June 20.  Don't miss the fun!

The Pinecrest Rep's outdoor production of Oleanna finishes its run at the Banyan Bowl this Sunday. June 6, 2010.

Unreasonable Doubt winds up its world premiere run at Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theater Sunday, June 6, 2010.

for kids...

Disney's Aladdin Jr. plays one day only at the Miramar Cultural Center, Sunday June 6th.
