The Scene for October 8, 2010

The new theatre season is in full swing now; Monday saw the 4th annual 24 Hour Theatre Project at the Caldwell, which kicked off the 4th annual South Florida Theatre Festival, and Young Frankenstein opened at the Broward Center on Wednesday, kicking off their 20 season of operations. 

And we still have another five shows opening this weekend!

And don't forget we're in the middle of the South Florida Theatre Festival; click through to their website to see what's coming up next.  Like, the reading of a new play, "only 18",  featuring a certain theatre blogger...


opening...

My First Time opens this weekend at Area Stage after a week of previews, and runs through November 7.  They're offering a... fittingly unique... ticket special; on October 9, virgins get in for free.  We're not sure what kind of documentation is required for that.  You can email jbchalakaniATgmail.com for more information, or to RSVP.  Tell'em the Theatre Scene sent you.

The Color of Desire, a new play by Pulitzer prize winning playwright Nilo Cruz opens at Actors' Playhouse this weekend.  It runs through November 7.

The southeastern premiere of Jack Goes Boating opens at New Theatre.  It runs through October 31.

Palm Beach DramaWorks opens George Bernard Shaw's Candida, and it plays through November 21.


you still haven't missed...

GFour Productions presents the world premiere of Motherhood The Musical at the Miniaci Performing Arts Center, on the campus of Nova Southeastern University.  Through October 31, 2010.

The Infinite Abyss production of Angel Eaters plays at Empire Stage through October 23, 2010.

Steel Magnolias plays at the Broward Stage Door Theatre through November 7.

Rising Action Theatre is running Fit To Be Tied through October 24.

The Hispanic Theatre Guild presents Amistad at Teatro 8, through November 7. (Spanish, with English supertitles).


passing through...

The National Tour of Young Frankenstein plays at the Broward Center through October 17.  They're pulling out all the stops in honor of their 20th season.  Expect giveaways and specials that somehow work "20" into their theme.


last chance to see...

Mics' Night Out plays at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, through October 10.  It's an interactive musical, along the lines of Tony & Tina's Wedding, only with karaoke.
