The Scene for March 9, 2012

A lot of openings across South Florida this weekend; and a lot of kids' shows are closing, so if you've been waiting to see Alice In Wonderland or Alexander, Who's Not...., well, go see them already.

This weekend also marks the swan song of The Promethean Theatre, which has decided to close operations after this last production.  The Unseen opens Saturday, and runs through March 25th.  Artistic director Deborah Sherman has announced that they'd rather close at the top of their game and debt free, rather than struggle to mount productions without any financial support. While we are sad to see another great company close, we applaud the sound judgement behind it.

Here's what's playing around South Florida this weekend...

opening...

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opens this weekend at Actors' Playhouse.

Mosaic Theatre
opens its production of Death and The Maiden this weekend.

The M Ensemble is back with Harlem Duet, opening at The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse.

Thinking Cap Theatre opens its production of Cleansed at Empire Stage this weekend.

The Promethean Theatre opens The Unseen.  This will be the final production by this excellent company, which is closing only for lack of financial support; if you haven't seen a show there before, you owe it to yourself to catch their swan song.
