UPDATED 2x: The Scene for April 17, 2009

If you read some of the other theatre blogs* around town, you might be under the impression that there are six professional theatre productions opening around South Florida this week.

Nothing could be farther from the truth.
UPDATE REVISED:

There are, in fact, eight NINE TEN professional productions opening this week. (I missed Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival)(AND Broward Stage Door. Honestly, get your listings turned in!) True, one's a national tour, and another is a remount of an earlier production, but they weren't playing last week, and they are playing this week, and that sounds like an opening to me.

* Theatre Row and Drama Queen. And I'm not disparaging them, just teasing them a little.

Just a reminder: Clicking on a highlighted show title leads you to the review summaries for that show.

Broward Stage Door opens Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music. It plays through May 24.

Sol Theater snuck their "limited engagement" of The Vagina Monologues into the scene without much fanfare: I missed announcing their opening last Saturday. But it's open and running through April 26.

Mad Cat Theatre Company will be running Broadsword at the Light Box, through May 2, 2009.

Cagney! runs through May 3, 2009 at Florida Stage. Four out of five critics recommend it, and the fifth says you should see it anyway.
